Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the state government is working across all sectors for the welfare of farmers. In a decision prioritizing farmers' welfare, the government has sent a proposal to the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare for the MSP (Minimum Support Price) procurement of summer moong and urad. The registration process for MSP procurement of moong and urad will commence on June 19. Instructions have been issued to relevant departments and agencies to facilitate this process.
CM Dr. Yadav emphasized that the state government is supporting farmers' economic empowerment by promoting agriculture-based industries. The government is committed to ensuring farmers receive a fair price for their crops through MSP. In discussions with farmer organizations, the CM assured that the Double Engine Government will work in sync to advance the state’s progress under PM Modi’s leadership. He added that the government will provide necessary assistance for the next crop cycle, including access to high-quality seeds and modern agricultural equipment through regular agricultural fairs across the state.
Minimum Support Price (MSP)
The Agricultural Costs and Prices Commission, Government of India, has fixed the MSP for summer moong at ₹8,682 per quintal and urad at ₹7,400 per quintal. The proposal sent by the State Department of Farmer Welfare and Agriculture includes a detailed plan for farmer registration, quality assessment of procured crops, transportation, payment, and promotion and outreach activities to ensure transparency.
Moong in 36 Districts, Urad in 13 Districts
Moong harvesting occurs in 36 districts of Madhya Pradesh from the third week of May to the first week of June, while urad harvesting takes place in 13 districts during the same period. The estimated area under moong cultivation is 14.35 lakh hectares, with a projected production of 20.23 lakh metric tonnes. For urad, the estimated area is 0.95 lakh hectares, with a production of 1.24 lakh metric tonnes.
MSP Registration Process
For MSP procurement of moong and urad, farmers must register by providing details such as crop name, Aadhaar number, bank account number, IFSC code, and a self-attested copy of their land ownership document. The bank account must be with a nationalized bank or a district cooperative central bank. Sharecroppers or tenant farmers must submit a self-attested copy of their tenancy agreement.
Payments for procured moong and urad will be made via computerized receipts issued by the procurement agency, detailing the farmer’s name, bank account number, and payable amount. These receipts will bear the signature of the procurement center in-charge.
The quality of moong and urad procured under MSP will adhere to FAQ Standards (Fair Average Quality) set by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution for the Rabi Marketing Year 2025-26. Cooperative societies will be responsible for procurement. To ensure quality, staff from cooperative societies, Madhya Pradesh State Cooperative Marketing Federation, MP Warehousing and Logistics Corporation, and relevant departments will be trained at the district level. Promotion and outreach campaigns will inform farmers about MSP and FAQ standards to prevent exploitation by middlemen.
Transportation of Procured Crops
For transporting moong and urad from procurement centers to warehouses, transporters will be appointed through contracts. The E-Procurement Software will generate transport receipts. If transporters fail to perform, district-level committees will arrange alternatives. Penalties will be imposed on transporters for delays, as per procurement agency rules.
Facilities at Procurement Centers
Procurement centers will provide farmers with shaded seating areas, clean drinking water, toilets, and first aid boxes. Equipment for testing crop quality will be available, along with detailed testing guidelines. A banner at each center will display the center’s name, FAQ standards, and payment details. Centers expecting high procurement volumes will have additional staff, laptops, printers, and batteries in working condition.
