Orchha to Become World-Class Tourism Destination: Chief Secretary Issues Major Directions

: The historic town of Orchha in Madhya Pradesh is all set to be transformed into a world-class tourism destination. On Sunday, Chief Secretary Shri Anurag Jain visited Orchha, inspected several ongoing development works, and gave strict instructions to officials to complete all projects on time with high quality standards.

The Chief Secretary emphasized preparing an Integrated Master Plan keeping in mind the economic and social development of Orchha. He inspected key sites including the Archaeological Park, Jujhar Mahal, Jahangir Mahal, Rai Praveen Mahal, Kanchana Ghat, and the new bridge under construction over the Betwa River, directing speedy completion.

He instructed that the vendor zone be designed to ensure smooth movement for tourists. Plans were also discussed to organize a Bundelkhand Cultural Festival on the lines of the Khajuraho Festival. Special emphasis was laid on involving local people in PPP-mode projects to generate employment. The Pink Toilet at Kanchana Ghat will be handed over to a self-help group.

To enhance tourist facilities, all hotels in the city will undergo star rating, Jujhar Singh Mahal will be developed as a Bundelkhand Cultural Centre, adventure sports will be promoted, and Bundeli art, paintings, and terracotta products will get proper branding and online marketing.

District officials and consultants were present during the visit.

Additional Update: Madhya Pradesh Tourism has recently intensified efforts to get Orchha listed in the UNESCO World Heritage list once again. The ongoing “Ram Van Gaman Path” project linked with the Ram Raja Temple is also progressing rapidly, expected to attract millions of devotees and tourists from India and abroad in the coming years.
